please note: there’s currently no way to be 100% positive that a pattern or product listing had GenAI anywhere in its creation. that said, there are still multiple tells that we’re looking for and they’re still reliable – for now.

1. Evaluating product photos.

  1. we sample 5-10 patterns for which there are multiple product photos
  2. we look for the same things we’ve listed in the tips section on this page below
  3. we screenshot and circle inconsistencies for safekeeping and as potential proof
  4. we do reverse image searches on some patterns (all would take too long)
  5. we go into the next step prepared to discuss the findings directly with seller

2. Reaching out to the entity.

i make every effort to reach out to designers for a statement, relying on them to be honest and transparent. obviously, not everyone is going to hold to that standard. if you’d like me to reach out to someone on your behalf, dm me.

  1. we start by asking a simple question: “what, if any, place does genai have in your process?”
  2. we give them this opportunity in hopes that the seller will be transparent and honest
  3. if it turns out this seller uses genai intentionally and has no desire to change, we list them under ai
  4. if the seller responds to the call out and is in the process of doing better, we’ll list them as such
  5. we can provide screenshots of any conversation upon request – we’re all about transparency

3. Listing and constant reevaluation.

sellers may move between lists, but I’ll always list safe sellers with an * for you if we have evidence that they’ve used GenAI by accident and are now much more careful (like myself!).
